South African Navy to Celebrate World Hydrography Day in East London

East London – The South African Navy, in collaboration with Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) and Transnet National Port Authority, is gearing up to celebrate World Hydrography Day (WHD) in East London.

This important event highlights the vital role of hydrography in ensuring safe navigation, maritime security, and environmental protection.

The WHD celebrations will take place on June 20-21, 2025, and will feature a variety of exciting activities. Attendees can look forward to keynote speeches, ship tours, and demonstrations that showcase hydrographic expertise and the latest technology.

“This event will provide valuable insights into the importance of hydrography and the Navy’s contributions to this field,” said a Navy spokesperson.

The schedule for the celebrations includes a Hydrography Lecture and Panel Discussion at the Premier Hotel on June 20, followed by a book launch and cocktail function onboard the SAS AMATOLA at the Port of East London.

On June 21, there will be a Right of Entry parade on Oxford Street in East London City Central, starting at 5:30 PM.

The arrival of South African Navy vessels in East London on June 18, 2025, will mark a significant commitment to advancing hydrographic research and raising awareness about South Africa’s maritime landscape.

“Our efforts in hydrography are crucial for ensuring safe navigation and protecting our environment,” the spokesperson added.
