The National Sea Rescue Institute(NSRI) is leading an ongoing search for a 7-year-old boy who went missing at Mdumbi Beach in the Eastern Cape on Sunday. The boy was swimming with three other children when they were caught in rip currents during the outgoing tide.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said, “multiple teams are involved in the search, including police K9 Search and Rescue, Police Water Policing and Diving Services, local police and volunteers from Mdumbi Backpackers. Lifeguards and surfers rescued three girls from the water but the boy remains missing. “
Despite extensive searches, no sign of the boy has been found. A 13-year-old girl who was rescued died on Monday from injuries sustained during the incident. Authorities are committed to continuing the search until the boy is found.
