Eastern Cape Municipalities Shine at Greenest Municipality Awards 2024/25!

EAST LONDON- The Greenest Municipality Awards 2024/25, held at the prestigious East London International Convention Centre, celebrated outstanding efforts in environmental management and sustainable development in the Eastern Cape.

The event, attended by esteemed guests including MEC Nonkqubela Pieters and MEC Zolile Williams, highlighted the importance of a clean environment and sustainable growth.

MEC Pieters emphasized the need for municipalities to keep their towns clean, stating, “A hygienic environment is essential for sustainable development and promoting a greener future.”

MEC Williams echoed this sentiment, warning of the dire consequences on the economy and development if cleanliness is overlooked.

Six municipalities stood out for their remarkable initiatives:
Kouga local municipality triumphed in Best Water Demand and Conservation Initiative and Best Managed e-Waste Public Drop-off Facility categories.

Inxuba Yethemba local municipality was recognized for their Innovative Greening Project and Outstanding Partnerships.

Nyandeni local municipality shone with the Best Management Landfill Site and Material recovery facility award.

Senqu local municipality scored double wins for Best Energy Project and Best Innovation for Public Participation and Awareness raising mechanisms.

These accolades not only showcase the dedication of these municipalities but also inspire others to join the green revolution.

The awards aim to foster a sustainable future, drive economic growth, and create job opportunities across the Eastern Cape.
