Kupelo’s qualifications under scrutiny
EAST LONDON-The trial of Sizwe Kupelo, Deputy Director in the Eastern Cape Health Department has commenced in the East London Specialized Crimes Court.
Kupelo is accused of forging his matric certificate when he applied for his current job in 2002.
According to Siyanda Manana, Director of Communications in the department, an investigation was launched after a tip-off about Kupelo’s qualifications. Manana claims that Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training in South Africa, confirmed that Kupelo’s matric certificate is not genuine.
Manana revealed that the certificate submitted by Kupelo belonged to a person named Cinga Dantyi. Umalusi provided a statement of symbols for Kupelo’s standard 10 results.
The trial is ongoing, with Kupelo currently out on R30,000 bail. The outcome of the trial will have significant implications for Kupelo’s career and reputation.
