GQEBERHA – Big news for South Africa! On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) achieved an amazing milestone by successfully docking one of the world’s largest container ships, the MSC Nicola Mastro, at the deepwater Port of Ngqura.
The MSC Nicola Mastro is an enormous vessel, stretching 400 meters long, and this marks its first visit to South African ports.
Local marine pilot Olwethu Mtsewu-Sisilana skillfully guided the ship into port, celebrating a significant moment in her career. Olwethu, who comes from Qanda village in Xesi, started her journey in the maritime world with a Transnet bursary back in 2008.
