UNATHI NKAYI
Born on the 06th of November 1978, Unathi is a South African born Radio personality, former Idols judge and singer. Nkanyi was born in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape and she went to Victoria High School.
Unathi Nkanyi moved to Netherlands where she obtained her Degree in International Media Studies through University of Ultrecht. She also enrolled at Rhodes University in Journalism and Media Studies.
Unathi is popular for co-presenting a singing competition many years ago and this led her auditioning for a TV gig on SABC1 music show “Castle Loud”. Unathi managed to get the television gig and later went on to co-produce the show.
In 2004, Unathi joined Gauteng popular youth station, YFM. Her radio career was launched during this time and after successful years at the station, she made a move to Metro FM. Unathi co-hosted “The Avenue” alongside Glen Lewis. In 2017 during the radio reshuffle on 31 March Unathi resigned at Metro FM following dispute with the management.
After a four year hiatus in radio in 2020, Nkayi made a return to her first love with Kaya 95.9 FM as the station midday show host. In 2021 Unathi was axed from Kaya following a heated argument with one of the presenters which eventually became messy and Nkayi suing the station for R1.6 Million.
In February 2022 she made a calm comeback to radio with Sandton based station Star FM (now 919 FM) to host the afternoon drive show and just a year at the station in 2023 she left. Unathi Nkayi is making another radio comeback with a new station (well kinda) that will launch in June 2025.
