Mother Accused of Toddler’s Death to Face Court

MBIZANA- A 32-year-old woman from the Mzamba is set to appear in the Mbizana Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing charges related to the death of her three-year-old daughter.
According to police, the woman allegedly placed the child’s body in a suitcase and transported it approximately 30 kilometers from Mzamba to the Mbizana Police Station.
Provincial police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli stated, “Suspect reportedly left her daughter alone at home on Sunday 18 May while visiting her boyfriend. Upon returning the following day, she claimed to have found the child unresponsive near the door.”
In addition, instead of seeking immediate assistance the woman allegedly concealed the body in a suitcase and traveled to Mbizana.
The charges against the mother include child neglect, defeating the ends of justice and culpable homicide. The case will proceed in court on Wednesday, 21 May 2025.
