EASTERN CAPE-The family of Asemahle Maqolo, a 21-year-old former journalism student at Berea Technical College, is reeling in shock after her body was discovered in a bush in Lindela Sub 5, Clermont, west of Durban.
Asemahle, originally from the Eastern Cape went missing on 27 April 2025 while in the Durban city centre. Her roommate reported that she had left their home in the morning to visit a hairdresser in Durban.
Eighteen days after her disappearance, Asemahle’s body was found in the bush and according to reports, she was allegedly found naked and in a state of disrepair.
In addition, the circumstances surrounding her death are still under investigation and her family is grappling with the tragic news.
Spokesperson for Asemahle’s mother, Sandile Mthembu said, “I received a call about the discovery of a body in the bush with a card bearing the surname “Maqolo” next to it. Upon arriving at the scene, we found the body to be mutilated and without underwear, raising suspicions that she may have been sexually assaulted before being killed and dumped.”
The family had been searching for Asemahle since her disappearance, with her mother traveling from the Eastern Cape to Durban to look for her. The case is currently under investigation and the family is awaiting further details about the circumstances surrounding Asemahle’s tragic death.
