EMPOWERING EAST LONDON ENTREPRENEURS WITH TECHNOLOGY HUB LAUNCH

EAST LONDON- In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering economic growth in East London, the Buffalo City Metro’s Economic Development and Agencies (BCMDA) Directorate, in collaboration with partners Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC), Telkom SA, and Nelson Mandela Bay iHub (NMB iHub), recently unveiled a new venture to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs) in the ICT sector.

The handover of computers at Duncan Village on April 17th, 2025, marks the beginning of a transformative journey for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to harness the power of technology for their businesses.

The goal of this partnership is clear: to empower SMMEs and integrate them into the mainstream economy, equipping them with the tools and resources needed to thrive in today’s technologically advanced world.

Metro Executive Mayor Princess Faku emphasized the importance of this initiative in boosting the township economy, stating, “By bringing these computers here, the Metro and its partners aim to make access to information easy for all.”

The hub will serve as a beacon of opportunity for young people in the community, offering them equal access to resources for self-improvement and development without the need to travel long distances.

With a focus on addressing technical, marketing, financial, and skills-related challenges faced by ICT sector players in the BCMM community, the incubation hub will host classes to educate SMMEs on navigating the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
