Newzroom Afrika Weather Presenter Hijacked and Kidnapped in Pretoria, Vehicle Still Missing
Newzroom Afrika’s Iindaba Zethu weather presenter Dicksy Mdlalose was hijacked and kidnapped in Sunnyside, Pretoria, on Friday evening and held until the early hours of Saturday morning, he confirmed.
According to Mdlalose, who’s also a musician, the incident occurred around 20h30 on 5 June 2026. He said he was held captive until about 02h00 on 6 June 2026, when he was dumped at a squatter camp in Centurion.
“ They took everything including the car, money etc,” Mdlalose said in a public update.
His vehicle, a silver grey Omoda C5 Elegance with registration MD 86 VG GP, has not been recovered.
Mdlalose also warned the public not to respond to any requests for money coming from his phone number or social media accounts.
“Should you receive/received a messages or calls from my number, WhatsApp, Messenger and or to any of my social media accounts’ asking for money. Please know that it’s not me,” he said. He added that he was only able to access a phone and complete a SIM swap on Sunday afternoon.
The presenter urged anyone who spots the vehicle to contact the police immediately.
Police have not yet issued a public statement on the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
